Reading Response #6

I’ve been reading Chasing Brooklyn the past week that I’ve had time. I did read it last year, but I didn’t really get it, so I decided to start reading it again.
I believe that Brooklyn, the main character, has a slight depression, she’s gone through a lot in the past year or so with her boyfriend dying and one of her friends. She is upset all the time, and keeps to herself in the hallways. Everyone knows what happened, but they don’t want to say anything to her, because they don’t want to be in an awkward situation if she started crying. She has some friends that are there for her, but don’t really know what she’s going through.  Brooklyn’s boyfriend was dead before the story even started, we never met him, but we did meet his brother.
On through the story, Brooklyn has nightmares that her boyfriend’s bestfriend is chasing her. She has dreams that she is running through the hallways of her school and he is chasing her trying to trap her, and right when he reaches her, she wakes up. She doesn’t know what is going on and she just keeps it all to herself. One day Brooklyn decided that she needed to go to her boyfriend’s house and talk to his family. She got there and his brother answered the door and everything changed from there.
She left and she beat herself up for going over there because it brought back memories and she didn’t want to do that. She was still upset and realized that she couldn’t handle it.
I chose this picture because it’s a girl crying and it represents someone that is sad or depressed and I think that this goes with what Brooklyn is feeling.

Research paper topic

Im doing my paper on Interracial Couples in the US. In todays society, interracial couples are more accepted because its becoming more common. But even if they are being more accepted, they are still being discriminated against. Our culture has obviously changed greatly because even in the 1960's, it was looked down upon to date other races. I believe that its our free will and we should be able to date or marry whoever we want, as long as we are happy.

Reading Response #5

I’ve been reading Bitter End by Jennifer Brown. I haven’t read much of it, only a couple chapters, but what I’ve read so far has really drew me in and kept me interested.
The amount that I have read has already given me a vision of each character and their personalities. What I’ve come to read is that Alex, which is the main character, had a death in her family which happened t be her mom. Her mom was running from something and was on the way to Colorado. On the way she got in a car wreck and wrapped her car around a tree. Alex was a small child, and wasn’t really sure what was going on.
Alex has had two best friends for almost her entire life. And after her mom died, they all decided that they were going to go on a trip to Colorado, but for Alex’s friends, it was a “senior trip” but for Alex it was a way to find out what her mom was chasing after, or to find what she was running from.
Alex is a rally good student, and when she is tutoring, a new boy comes in and she has to tutor him. He is a charming sports star and a smooth talker. She automatically connected to him. Well, they talked and you could tell by the way that the author was writing that she liked this boy and she was crushing on him. He seems nice, but who knows how the story is going to go on.
The author did a really good job helping the readers grasp the concept of the story and their own way to connect to the situation going on, without having to read past the second chapter.
